Be Realistic

NotesSetting realistic goals is the most important step in getting back on track and making changes that will stick. If your goal is to lose 2 stone, but you’re expecting to do that within a month, that is an unrealistic goal as reach that you would have to resort to unhealthy measures to reach this and it wouldn’t be sustainable. However, if you want to lose 2 stone within in 6 months, this is certainly something that is achievable.

Do your research and find out the best way to reach your goal in a healthy and manageable way as this will allow you to continue working towards your goal for longer.

Drink WaterDrink water

There are numerous benefits of drinking plenty of water. From flushing out toxins within your body to aiding in digestion and increasing brain power. Drinking around 2 litres of water per day will help to boost your immune system and improve your mindset as dehydration can affect your mood. If you’re feeling happier and healthier then you are more likely to stick to your healthy eating and exercise regime.

If your goal is weight loss, water also helps you to feel fuller as it is a natural appetite suppressant and can help to improve your metabolism.

Stay Active

Stay ActiveKeeping active is particularly important to help you to feel healthy. This doesn’t necessarily mean going to the gym 5 times a week but can be achieved by taking simple steps to move more throughout your day to day life. Taking a walk on your lunch break, using the stairs instead of the lift and even cleaning the house a little more vigorously can help you to burn a few extra calories and release those happy endorphins into your brain.

If you are looking to join a gym to include more exercise in your life then great! If it’s something you’ve never done before then go back to step 1 – be realistic. Start with baby steps and try and go for 60 minutes a week. This can be done over 2-3 sessions. Once you are able to reach this goal consistently, increase the number of minutes per week to an amount that is suitable to your lifestyle and goals.

Eat HealthilyEat Healthily

Let’s get back to basics. There is no need to partake in any of the popular ‘fad diets’ such as the Atkins diet, juice diet or drinking detox teas for weight loss. Eating healthily is the easiest way to assist with weight loss. This doesn’t mean that you have to live off of salads, it just means ensuring that you are regularly eating fresh, whole foods within your diet. Your foods should consist of a healthy balance of all of the macro and micronutrients that we need to survive and these are found in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, healthy fats and carbohydrates.

Eating a healthy diet isn’t only beneficial for weight loss but also for overall health. Reduced cancer risk, reduced cardiovascular disease and strong bones and teeth all come from fuelling your body with the right foods.

Track Your Progress

Tracking your progress is the number one way to stay motivated throughout. Whether that’s progress photos, measurements and weigh in’s, calorie tracking apps or using the FIT3D Pro Scanner, these will all help you to stay on track.

There are many resources online that show you what a healthy weight is for your height and age that can help you to set your ‘goal weight’. If your goal is less about losing weight and more about ‘toning up’ through lifting weights, it’s crucial to understand that muscle weighs more than fat so the number on the scale may increase.

If you are going to be weighing yourself to track your progress, it’s important to be aware of weight fluctuations. This is down to a number of reasons such as water retention, periods and bowel movements. The most accurate way to see your weight change is by weighing yourself every morning and taking a weekly average – however, this just isn’t maintainable for a lot of people. Weighing yourself once a week, on the same day at the same time is likely the most sustainable and over time you will see the trend that you’re looking for.
