Now that January is out of the way and you’ve committed to your New Year’s resolution for just over a month, it’s time to make that habit stick. According to a variety of different studies, it takes approximately 66 days for a new habit to feel ‘automatic’. Everyone has good and bad days but as long as you are consistent, you’ll be sure to reach your goals.
For those in relationships or even singles with dates lined up, you’ll be aware that Valentine’s day is just around the corner. If your New Year’s resolution was and still is to tone up and lose some weight, you’ll want to be looking your best for that special day.
So how can you ensure that you’re feeling amazing this Valentine’s day?
Although regular exercise shows the best results when done over a long-term period, this doesn’t mean to say you won’t see any results in the short term. In fact, those who are new to exercise are likely to see results faster initially than those who exercise regularly.
As well as looking better, exercise also helps you to feel better within yourself due to the release of ‘feel good hormones’, also known as endorphins.
These endorphins, combined with your new-found exercise regime are sure to have you looking and feeling confident ready for a night of lust, love and romance this Valentines!
Many of us are aware that exercise and healthy eating go hand in hand and similarly to exercise, healthy eating sees the best results when carried out over a long period. However, this doesn’t mean you should resort to crash dieting to be Valentine’s day ready.
Instead, you should consider swapping out processed, caffeinated and sugary foods for fresh, whole foods as often as possible. Your meals should include a balance of lean protein, carbohydrates, healthy fats and vegetables. You should also take a look at your portion sizes and ensure that you aren’t accidentally eating more than the recommended serving size.
Keeping healthy snacks on hand can help you to resist reaching for crisps or chocolate when you start to feel a bit peckish and will help you to feel fuller for longer than if you were to eat a ‘junk’ alternative.
Bloating is experienced by almost everyone from time to time. Whether this is caused by inhaling to much air when you eat (due to eating to quickly), IBS, or a food intolerance or allergy, we don’t tend to feel particularly confident in our LBD when we’re bloated.
If bloating is something that you experience regularly, you should look at keeping a food diary to see which foods trigger this bloating. Alternatively, you can visit your GP to be tested for IBS and coeliac disease to see if this is the culprit.
Making sure that you are eating the correct portion sizes will help with reducing bloating. There are also foods that are known to cause bloating that are easy to avoid such as salt, alcohol, soda and anything with added sodium (tinned soup, ready meals etc.)
