Getting a tattoo is ever growing in popularity with 1 in 5 adult Britons having at least one tattoo. Following the decision to get a tattoo, according to The Metro, 1 in 3 of us regret the ink that we’ve chosen – this feeling can arise anywhere from a couple of days to several years after. A survey from Advanced Dermatology shows that one of the most common reasons of tattoo regret is ‘it has or had significant meaning’ with lettering or script being the style that we often dislike the most.
From a young age, we have always been told that tattoos are permanent. However, it is now possible to have them removed either fully or partially. Before the introduction of laser tattoo removal methods, Wikipedia states that removal techniques included dermabrasion, salabrasion (which involves scrubbing the skin with salt) and even the suggestion of the injection or application of lemon juice, garlic and pigeon poo.
At 3D Aesthetics Leamington Spa we offer effective Laser Tattoo Removal using the 3D-Nanosure machine.
Q-Switching Tattoo Removal Technology
Tattoo ink can be difficult to remove, with only Q-Switched lasers having the ability to produce sufficient energy or power to remove both dark and bright tattoos without unattractive side effects. With the 3D-Nanosure, unwanted dark and multi-coloured tattoos can be safely and effectively removed using this advanced dual wavelength laser with Q-Switching application.
The dual wavelength laser allows 3D Aesthetics Leamington Spa to treat both block tattoos and coloured tattoos differently to ensure that you receive the best possible result from each treatment.
The 1064 laser concentrates on darker, block tattoos (such as tribal and arm band tattoos). This wavelength energy targets deeper within the skin to ensure full removal of the heavy pigmentation.
The 532 laser focuses on coloured tattoos and doesn’t penetrate as deep as the ink. This is because these tattoos tend to be lighter and usually don’t require as much energy to remove.
The Q-Switched laser shatters the tattoo ink without harming any of the surrounding tissue. The fragments of ink are then dispersed and disposed of through your body’s natural waste system.
Initial Consultation at 3D Aesthetics Leamington Spa
Before we go ahead with your treatment, you will be required to visit our clinic in Leamington Spa for your laser tattoo removal consultation. This allows us to see the size and colours of your tattoo prior to book you in for treatment. During this consultation we can advise you on how many treatments are likely to be necessary, the results that you can expect as well as offering advice on pre and post care.
Your free consultation with our therapists will also include a patch test. This is required to ensure that you are suitable to go ahead with the treatment without seeing any adverse effects.
The side effects that we look for within this treatment include erythema (natural pinkness) and white treatment spots which indicates that the ink has been targeted. Swelling is also a natural reaction to the treatment and this can be reduced by using cooling techniques following the treatment.
Laser Tattoo Removal Treatment Process
The laser tattoo removal treatment process usually takes between 3 and 6 sessions depending on your desired results and the size of your tattoo. If you’re looking to fade your tattoo with the intention of having it covered with another tattoo then three treatments may be enough for you. However, to completely eliminate your tattoo six or more sessions may be required.
Laser tattoo removal isn’t completely pain free, but it also isn’t as painful as everyone seems to think. Unfortunately, we cannot use numbing cream with this treatment. However, if you know that you have a low pain threshold you can take a Paracetamol 20 minutes before treatment application. It’s important to ensure that if you do take painkillers, that it’s a Paracetamol rather than an anti-inflammatory as swelling is a side effect that we look for during this treatment.
Laser Tattoo Removal After Care
After every laser tattoo removal treatment, you must follow a series of basic after care protocols to ensure the best possible results. These include keeping the treatment area dry, no hot baths or showers (tepid only), no deodorant or perfumes on the treatment area, and the use of SPF 30+ daily on the exposed skin. These after care protocols should be followed for a minimum of 3 days, or until the skin normalises. To help reduce swelling, you can take Ibuprofen post treatment as well as using a cold compress or ice packs on the areas.
