1 in 5 of us Britons have a minimum of one tattoo. This trend is continuously growing in popularity with the oldest evidence of human tattoos believed to be from between 3370 BC and 3100 BC. However, not all of us continue to like the tattoos that we choose to get. The Metro states that 1 in 3 of us regret the artwork that we’ve chosen, anywhere between a couple of days to several years after the procedure.
Since we were young, it’s always been drilled into us that tattoos are permanent and that it is an irreversible decision. However, tattoo removal is now a fairly accessible service. A survey carried out by Advanced Dermatology shows that lettering or script style tattoos are often the ones that we dislike the most, with one of the most common reasons of tattoo regret being ‘it has or had significant meaning’.
Before the introduction of tattoo removal methods, Wikipedia states that removal techniques included dermabrasion, salabrasion (which involves scrubbing the skin with salt) and even the suggestion of the injection or application of lemon juice, garlic and pigeon poo.
At 3D Aesthetics Leamington Spa we offer effective Tattoo Removal using the 3D-Nanosure machine.
Tattoo Removal Technology
The removal of tattoo ink can be difficult, with only Q-Switched lasers having the ability to produce sufficient energy or power without unattractive side effects.
With the 3D-Nanosure, our laser experts can remove unwanted dark and multi-coloured tattoos both safely and effectively by using the advanced dual wavelength laser with Q-Switching application.
At 3D Aesthetics Leamington Spa, the dual wavelength laser allows us to treat both dark and bright tattoos differently. This ensures that you receive the best possible result from each treatment.
Bright and colourful tattoos are removed using the 532 laser. This wavelength is attracted to the depth of the ink and often requires less energy to break down the colours to remove the tattoo.
Tribal style and block tattoos that contain predominantly dark ink will be treated using the 1064 laser. The wavelength energy from this ensures full removal of heavy pigmentation.
The Q-Switched laser shatters the tattoo ink without harming any of the surrounding tissue. The fragments of ink are then dispersed and disposed of through your body’s natural waste system.
Initial Consultation at 3D Aesthetics Leamington Spa
Before we can book you in for a course of tattoo removal treatments, you will need to visit our clinic in Leamington Spa for a consultation. During the consultation we will assess the size and colouring of your tattoo and then advise on how many treatments are likely to be required, the kind of results you can expect and also offer any pre and post care advice.
Our therapists will also carry out a patch test during your consultation to ensure that you are suitable to go ahead with the treatment without seeing any adverse effects.
Tattoo Removal Treatment Process
Having a tattoo removed can take anywhere from 3 and 6+ sessions depending on the size of your tattoo and the results that you’d like to see. For complete removal, six or more sessions may be needed. However, to fade your tattoo ready for a cover up, three treatments may be enough.
Tattoo removal tends to have a stigma attached to it around it being excruciatingly painful, but this isn’t factually true. Although everyone’s pain threshold is different, you should be aware that having a tattoo removed isn’t as painful as you may think. Numbing cream cannot be used with this treatment but you can take a painkillers 20 minutes before the treatment starts.
If taking this route, you should ensure that you take Paracetamol rather than an anti-inflammatory as swelling is a side effect that we look for during this treatment. Swelling is a natural reaction to the treatment that can be reduced using cooling techniques following the treatment.
Other side effects that are expected include erythema (natural pinkness) and white treatment spots which indicate that the ink has been targeted.
Tattoo Removal After Care
There are a number of basic after care protocols that you should follow after every tattoo removal treatment. Failure to comply with these may lead to you not receiving the best possible results from your course of treatments.
Keeping the treatment area dry, no deodorant or perfumes on the treatment area and keeping the area covered with gauze of 3 days after treatment are just a few of the protocols that should be followed. However, during your consultation process your therapist will advise you fully on how to care for the area
To help reduce swelling, you can take Ibuprofen post treatment as well as using a cold compress or ice packs on the areas.
